This week has been pretty routine. They've definitely cut my clinic visits back to three days a week for now. They say it's because I'm doing well, and I believe them because they're wearing stethoscopes.
Monday of last week Dr. Duvic biopsied a spot on the back of my right upper arm. Tuesday they let me know that it was positive for MF. She's prescribed a cream called aldara that I'll use for six weeks. It's supposed to provoke a local, limited graft-versus-host-disease response. No one seems to think this is alarming. They say my new immune system is still developing and not totally on the job yet.
Tonight (Thursday) I had a CAT scan. They made me drink a little more of the barium shake than usual, so I'm a little queasy right now. I have to stay up long enough to get over that, eat a little something, and take the evening meds. Tomorrow, the only thing we have scheduled is a morning bone marrow aspiration and bone biopsy. It's about the least fun thing you can do with your pelvis.

slayed again. XO
ReplyDeleteI think if you came up with a beer flavored barium, you could market it as 'beerium' and be able to retire as a multi-billionaire ;>) Time to get to work on that concoction in your spare time,eh. Cheers! As for the bone marrow aspiration and bone biopsy - are we to understand that you might be able to market these techniques at 'Gitmo' and other such 'offshore' facilities. ;>)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, we hope that ye auld pelvis is no worse for the wear and tear s/p Friday's procedure. Feel better fast and get well SOON! Hope you all had a lovely,laid-back Lupercalia!
Love,

Small wonder my own suggestion of "bari-yum" for the berry flavored variety met with little enthusiasm. :P
ReplyDeleteIndeed! The guy is Irish after all - why wouldn't he prefer 'Beeri-Yum'. Still, there's plenty of room in this equation for 'Berry-Yum' for teetotalers, or for oenophiles such as yourself. ;>) From what I understand about basic barium, any upgrades at all would be most welcome, so I think we're both really on to something! ;>)

There already is berry flavored and banana... So my joking suggestion masquerading as an idea is really just a name change. Someone, somewhere did try to make the stuff more palatable. I haven't tasted it, but you know, it just smells chalky. M tolerates the way it tastes pretty well. For this, and many other reasons he deserves some kind of award or medal for meritorious conduct! Then again, I AM biased!
